MARCUS DESIGN'S PHILOSOPHY

From interior flow to exterior curb appeal, all matters of home design are treated with equal importance. To set this tone properly, the drawing process of each house plan starts at the same point: the entry, where the exterior meets the interior. The home should be immediately welcoming to those who enter. Everything that follows reflects around this point.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does Marcus actually do?
He designs custom homes and draws the plans for them. That means working one-on-one with you to turn what you want into a set of drawings — conceptual plans first, then detailed construction plans precise enough that your builder is not left guessing.
What is the difference between conceptual plans and construction plans?
Conceptual plans are the design stage — layout, flow, how the home sits on your lot, how it looks. Construction plans are the detailed technical drawings your builder works from and your permit application needs. Most projects move through both.
Can I just buy a ready-made plan instead?
Yes. There is a catalogue of ready-made house plans at shop.marcusdesign.ca — designs drawn for real projects, offered as downloadable Study Sets and Construction Sets. It is a considerably cheaper route than a full custom commission if one of the existing designs suits your lot and your family.
Can a ready-made plan be modified?
Yes. Changes to an existing plan are possible, but they need a one-on-one conversation with Marcus first so the scope of the changes is clear before any work starts.
What does a custom home design cost?
It depends entirely on the home — its size, its complexity, and how much of the process you need. There is no standard price, and quoting one before understanding the project would be guessing. Get in touch and Marcus will talk you through what your project actually involves.
What are Marcus’s qualifications?
Marcus Cormier holds the PTech designation (certified professional engineering technologist) and has 30 years of experience in residential design.
Do you work with my builder?
Yes. The plans are drawn to remove the builder’s guesswork, which is the point of doing them properly. Our clients should reach the construction phase with full confidence — that only happens when the drawings answer the builder’s questions before they are asked.
Do you work in French?
Yes. Marcus Design works in both English and French, and this site is published in both.
